CEG Digital announce Portsmouth Online in partnership with the University of Portsmouth

The University of Portsmouth and CEG Digital announce the establishment of Portsmouth Online, a college of the University to deliver online education.

CEG Digital will work with the University of Portsmouth to develop, market and deliver high quality online postgraduate degree programmes to students around the world.

The University of Portsmouth has selected Cambridge Education Group (CEG) Digital Division as its collaborative partner to establish a college of the University to create and deliver high quality online postgraduate taught programmes to a global audience.

The University of Portsmouth is ranked among the Top 150 universities under 50 in the world, and as an educational establishment dates back to 1869. It has an excellent reputation for preparing students for the world of work and was ranked number 1 in the UK for boosting graduate salaries by The Economist in 2017. It is currently ranked 21st in The Guardian University Guide 2020.

CEG Digital is one of the leading providers of online education services to the university sector in the UK, partnering with prestigious institutions to deliver high quality online courses to a global market on a part-time, flexible basis. Courses are delivered using cutting-edge technology and sector-leading pedagogy. CEG Digital also brings its extensive marketing and recruitment capabilities to support Portsmouth Online to deliver vibrant cohorts of well qualified students to its partners’ programmes.

From early 2021, the University of Portsmouth, through its college, Portsmouth Online, intends to offer an initial portfolio of postgraduate taught programmes purposely designed for working professionals and primarily delivered online with opportunities for face-to-face workshops. The initial programme suite is going to cover curricular areas of Data Analytics, Construction Project Management, Resilience Management, International Human Resource Management and Cybercrime.

CEG Digital and The University of Portsmouth will work collaboratively to develop, market and deliver the programmes to students in the UK and worldwide through Portsmouth Online. The programmes will be led by Portsmouth academic staff who are experts in their field, supported by specialist tutors offering 24/7 support.

“The University has ambitious strategic objectives to widen its reach and expand its presence in international educational markets. I am confident that the partnership with CEG Digital will help us deliver high quality online education to new student cohorts,” explained Professor Paul Hayes, Deputy Vice-Chancellor. “This strategic partnership shows our determination to grow the reputation of the University internationally and be recognised for academic excellence that helps create the workforce of the future.”

Geoff Webster, Managing Director of CEG Digital, said: “We are really excited to be working with Portsmouth and helping them fully access the global online learning market for the benefit of prospective students. Portsmouth is renowned for the quality of its forward-looking higher education provision, and our partnership will decisively contribute to enhancing that reputation. The online education delivered by Portsmouth Online will assist students to significantly progress their careers.”

Professor Hayes added: “This partnership will significantly extend the range of digital learning opportunities across all levels of our study programmes. Increased digital innovation and flexibility will become an important feature of our on and off-campus courses, which will make our outstanding and innovative education available to students around the world, even if they don’t study on our campus.”

The establishment of Portsmouth Online responds to a growing and pressing need in the Higher Education sector, Mr Webster continued: “Global demand for post-secondary education is expected to rise to 263 million students by 2025. Universities will not be able to meet this level of demand by traditional delivery. Deploying high quality full university online programmes at scale requires dedicated resources, funding and larger capacity for risk than most institutions are willing to withstand. Through our collaborative partnership model we provide a unique combination of financial resources, pedagogical expertise in a sophisticated digital environment, global market knowledge and an international salesforce.”
